How do I apply for a Medical practitioner permit?

Medical practitioner parking permits allow doctors to park their vehicles in specific parking spaces at a hospital or medical practice within the City of Yarra.

Who can apply for a medical practitioner permit?

 You can apply for a Medical practitioner permit if you are:

  • practicing at a hospital or medical practice within Yarra.
  • have an existing medical bay (Area 50 sign) at your place of practice within Yarra.

How many permits can I apply for?

You can apply for a maximum of two permits. Each permit must be attached to a specific vehicle.  

What documents do I need to apply? 

You must provide the following documents with your application

  • Proof of vehicle ownership.

You must provide one of the following documents with your application (choose from the list that best applies to your circumstances).

Vehicle is registered in your name
  • Registration certificate or renewal notice.
  • Contract of sale document (must show vehicle registration).
  • VicRoads vehicle transfer document (signed).
  • Copy of insurance documents.
You are the primary driver - vehicle not registered in your name. 
  • Copy of insurance documents (must list your name as a driver).
    Vehicle is registered in a company name.
    • One of the above documents (Registration certificate, Contract of sale, VicRoads vehicle transfer or insurance documents)
    • You must also provide a signed letter from the company on official letterhead. The letter must state that you are the primary driver of the vehicle and it is housed at the address on the application.

    *If you do not attach proof of vehicle ownership with your application we will not be able to issue you with a parking permit.

    How much will my permit cost?

    • 1st permit $147.20 (no GST)
    • 2nd permit $273.00 (no GST)

    When will I receive my permit? 

    Once your application is approved and payment has been received then the permit will be posted to the address on the application.

    You should then receive your permit within 5 business days. 

    How do I renew my permit?

    Our parking permits are valid for 12 months. Before your permit expires, we will post you a renewal notice with a reference number for you to pay by credit card.

    If all of your details (address and vehicle) are the same and your permit has not expired you can pay by credit card online or by calling 1300 792 772. 

    The permit will be posted to you within 5 business days. We will accept payments up to 14 days after your permit expires.

    What if my details have changed?

    You need to do the following:

    Step 1: Complete the parking permit renewal notice and the change of details section.
    Step 2: Submit the completed form and pay the fee by:

    • mail: using the prepaid envelope, enclosing a cheque or money order made out to Yarra City Council
    • in person at a Yarra City Council contact centre. Please bring your renewal notice with you. 

    How do I replace my permit?

    If you have lost, damaged, stolen or need the permit transferred, we can replace your parking permit. The replacement fee is $20.80

    If your permit has been stolen and you provide a police report, there will be no fee.
