There's an exciting new generation of thinkers and doers in our community and we want to make sure their voices are heard.

We're looking for young people in Yarra who are passionate about youth issues and social justice to join our 2022/23 Yarra Youth Advocacy group.

Yarra Youth Advocacy will be a group of 10 young people tasked with hosting forums and workshops which provide insights to Council and other key decision makers on how to best support young people. They’ll also bring their ideas to identified projects such as the 2023/24 Budget.

Alongside the ability to advocate on behalf of young people, the Yarra Youth Advocacy group will have a chance to develop their own skills. They’ll receive training in:

  • leadership
  • advocacy
  • facilitation

Finally, the Yarra Youth Advocacy group will help empower other young people in the community by helping promote programs such as the Yarra’s Youth Led Grants and Community Awards.

We’re currently seeking expressions of interest for young people to join the 2022/23 Yarra Youth Advocacy group.

This group will reflect a diverse mix of young people across a range of areas, including:

  • age
  • gender
  • cultural background
  • location within the municipality
  • experience with local services
  • advocacy interests.

If you know someone who may be interested in being part of the Yarra Youth Advocacy group, please encourage them to fill out an expression of interest form before 5pm on Monday 12 September.
