Lyndsey’s story

Community Awards - Lyn Watson - Community Spirit winner

Lyndsey has received our Community Spirit Award for her significant contributions to community recovery and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lyndsey has a long history of volunteering in our community as a program coordinator with the University of the Third Age (U3A).

During the lockdowns, Lyndsey organised U3A to offer its programs to the broader community, not just its members. She reached out to Yarra Libraries to promote the programs via their channels as well.

Lyndsey rose to the challenges presented by the lockdowns. She not only upskilled herself in using Zoom but also upskilled U3A's members and tutors. As a result, U3A successfully transitioned to delivering its programs online during lockdowns.

Congratulations, Lyndsey – and thank you for your ongoing contributions to our community.

Our thanks…

Thank you to all those individuals and groups nominated for this special COVID-19 related award. We were blown away by the number and quality of responses received for this category.

There were many inspirational examples of people going above and beyond to deliver their programs and initiatives during lockdowns. There were online scout programs, wool craft workshops and homework clubs for vulnerable students - to name just a few.

We could not be prouder of how our community supported each other during this time.
