Emergency exercise in Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library

Tuesday 21 November 2017

Yarra Council will be conducting an emergency management exercise at Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library this Friday November 24 between 8am and 4pm.

You may notice an increased number of vehicles and people on Brunswick Street during this time.

This exercise will be conducted in partnership with Victoria Police, Red Cross, Metropolitan Fire and other agencies in order to test and embed Yarra Council's emergency management plans and procedures.

Around 150 people will be in involved in this exercise, which will simulate the evacuation of businesses and residents in North Fitzroy. This will include setting up a temporary emergency relief center within Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library. The library will open as normal and not be affected.

The purpose of this exercise and those like it is to ensure we respond effectively in the event of an unexpected emergency by practicing in a realistic yet safe environment. It will give emergency management personnel the opportunity to rehearse their roles so that they can manage high-pressure situations successfully.

For information on the exercise or to find out how you can become involved in the City of Yarra’s Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee, please contact us on 9205 5555 or visit our emergencies information page.
