Accommodation businesses are:
- student dormitories
- rooming houses
If you are opening, buying or selling an accommodation business you need to ensure the premises is registered with us.
A rooming house requires registration if there are four or more people residing. All other types of accommodation requires registration if 6 or more people are residing (excluding members of the operator’s family)
For details of fit out and compliance requirements such as the maximum number of people that can be accommodated in each room you will need to refer the relevant provisions of the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009.
Renewing your registration
If you have an existing accommodation registration, we will post you a renewal notice from early November each year.
Please visit Enquire about prescribed accommodation premises registration to submit all your renewal documentation. You can also let us know if you:
- need to update your contact details (phone, email or postal address)
- need to update your business details (AB, number of bedrooms provided, number of people that can be accommodated)
- have recently closed your business or transferred the business to a new owner.
The due date for your renewal fee is 10 December, 2019. Paying by this date ensures that your registration will be current on 1 January, to run until 31 December, 2020. An additional fee will apply for late payments.
