Yarra City Arts is pleased to announce Kate Beynon as the recipient of the 2024 Yarra Arts Fellowship. This inaugural grant is a $10,000 award for an individual artist to focus more easily on their practice, by reducing financial pressures associated with maintaining a creative practice.

Dr Kate Beynon is a Hong Kong-born, Naarm-based established multidisciplinary artist working across painting, textile sculpture, fashion, immersive space, public art, animation, and projection art. Shaped by interests in storytelling, auspicious imagery, guardian figures, as well as connections to her Cantonese-Malaysian and Welsh ancestries, Beynon merges art-forms to explore ideas of hybrid life and kindred spirits.

With support from the fellowship Beynon will create a body of new works that explore an interest in socially engaged space- both through her studio at Collingwood Yards and other interactive spaces in Yarra- using colour, imagination, and shared experiences.

The City of Yarra is known as a creative city, active with live music, street festivals, creative venues and hubs, galleries, studios and creative communities that all contribute to its unique ecology. The Arts and Culture Strategy 2022-2026 recognises as a priority that Artists are essential to a thriving Yarra. Supporting our local artists ensures we continue to nurture and grow our creative community, with flow on benefits for community engagement, health and wellbeing, community pride and economic benefit. The Yarra Arts Fellowship will re-open in 2024. Explore our website for other opportunities.
