Yarra’s Councillors have elected Councillor Edward Crossland as Mayor and Councillor Anab Mohamud as Deputy Mayor for the next 12 months.

The election took place at a ceremonial Council Meeting tonight (Wednesday, 15 November).

“It is a great honour to be elected as Mayor of Yarra,” he said. “I’m particularly keen to work collaboratively with the Councillor group and community to plan for our growing city, address housing affordability, Yarra’s financial sustainability objectives and ensure we’re planning ahead to provide the infrastructure and services our current and future community needs,” Mayor Crossland said.

“Importantly, I want to continue to hear from the broadest spectrum of our community about their ideas and opportunities, explore approaches to further support our business precincts and creative communities to thrive, and create better places for people and nature through enhanced streetscapes and open spaces,” he said.

“I am incredibly proud of our city and remain committed to supporting and celebrating our wonderfully diverse community.”

Yarra’s outgoing Mayor, Cr Claudia Nguyen said Cr Crossland will bring great energy and a clear vision for the future of Yarra.

“Councillor Crossland is committed to building a more inclusive Yarra, and to working towards more fair and equitable outcomes for our community.”

Cr Crossland was first elected as a Yarra councillor in 2020 and currently sits on Yarra City Council’s Rainbow Advisory Committee. Before being elected Mayor Cr Edward Crossland was the City of Yarra’s Deputy Mayor in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.
