Resolutions and other motions from this week's Council Meeting - Tuesday 10 October 2023

At Tuesday night’s Council Meeting, Council endorsed: 

  • Changes to the Council Order under the Domestic Animal Act 1994 including the introduction of a 7pm to 7am cat curfew from 1 January 2024.
  • A 2-year extension for Tier 2 landfill services with Cleanaway and Hanson, from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2027.

Council heard the following reports: 

  • Yarra’s 2022/23 Annual Report
  • October Governance Report
  • Planning and Housing Reform report
  • Delegates’ report for the Heritage Advisory Committee. 

Petitions and letters: 

  • A petition with 465 signatures requested the installation of speed humps on Miller Street, North Fitzroy, accommodating buses and bicycles. The petition has been forwarded to the appropriate council officer for consideration.

Other:   

  • Council endorsed its strong support for the formal position of the Elders at the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to actively support the YES vote on the Voice to Parliament. Council recognises the importance of ensuring Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, have input into the development of policies at all levels of government.
  • Council appealed to the Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools over the proposed closure of St Johns Primary School, highlighting local growth. Letters will also be sent to State and Federal Education Ministers, urging the school's continued operation, with a focus on students with additional needs.
  • Council praised the Victoria Street Business Association for the Moon Lantern Festival, recognised the vital cultural contributions of the Vietnamese community, and is seeking governmental support for significant anniversaries, including the Gateway Structure's 10-year milestone in 2024 and 50 years of Vietnamese presence in Australia by 2025.
