Yarra high-rise public housing tower

On Wednesday, the Victorian Government released its Housing Statement, committing to retiring all older high-rise towers across Melbourne. In light of this, we would like to direct Yarra residents to the most reliable source of information on this topic.

We understand that many Yarra residents may have concerns or questions about this project, particularly those who live in high-rise public housing towers in Yarra.

We would like to reassure residents that no one will need to move from their homes right now, or even soon. This work is due to commence by 2031 and conclude in 2051, with the first 5 towers slated to be redeveloped sitting outside of Yarra.

There are currently no dates listed for the redevelopment of the high-rise public housing towers within Yarra. Further details are expected to be released later this year.

Council understands that this project affects the homes of many of our residents, who are understandably seeking information and clarity on this project. Council wants to ensure that you have access to the relevant and accurate resources.

We recommend that residents visit the Homes Victoria website to learn more about the high-rise redevelopment project.

There is also information available in a range of languages other than English.

The Homes Victoria website also provides contact details for those seeking further information about the project from Homes Victoria. Anyone who has further questions can contact Homes Victoria directly by calling 1800 716 866 or emailing [email protected].

We also recommend that concerned residents sign-up for project updates to receive timely news from Homes Victoria.

The Homes Victoria’s Yarra Housing team is working with public housing communities to make sure residents are well informed about what this means for them. They will be door-knocking and providing pop-up information sessions in the coming months.
