Cremorne’s iconic Slade Knitwear rooftop sign will be removed in the coming weeks in response to public safety concerns.

Structural engineers have advised the owner of the building that in the interests of public safety, the heritage-listed sign is unstable and needs to be removed.

Yarra City Council is committed to preserving Yarra’s heritage and every effort will be made to encourage the building owner to restore and reinstate the sign.

The removal operation will be conducted by the building owner and the sign will be placed in storage.

The road and footpath will remain closed until all works are completed.
