Yarra shares Premier's Sustainability Award

Friday 12 October 2018

Yarra’s involvement with the landmark Melbourne Renewable Energy Project (MREP) has been recognised with a Premier’s Sustainability Award in the Government category.

Together with our partner cities Melbourne, Port Phillip and Moreland, we are driving construction of a major new wind farm in regional Victoria.

We will be sourcing 100% of our electricity through MREP, enough to power all Council-owned and operated buildings, as well as park and street lighting throughout Yarra.

By using a clean and renewable resource like wind power, we will be contributing to a 96,000 tonne reduction in harmful greenhouse gas emissions each year.

Visit melbourne.vic.gov.au/mrep for more on this sector-leading project, and sustainabilityawards.vic.gov.au for more on the Premier’s Sustainability Awards.

Yarra is Victoria’s first carbon neutral council (achieving carbon neutral certification every year since 2012) and the first local government in Australia to receive ‘One Planet’ certification.
