A community garden is coming to Hardy Gallagher Reserve

Wednesday 06 June 2018

Council met this week to consider the future of the underutilised bocce courts next to the North Carlton Railway Neighbourhood House in Hardy Gallagher Reserve.

Council voted unanimously to allow the neighbourhood house to convert the majority of the site into a shared community growing space, while retaining one of the lanes for bocce.

Next steps

A new design will be prepared and exhibited on the site, before a final design is approved by Council officers.

A timeline for this process will be announced shortly.

Following redevelopment, the site will continue to be available for community use, and it will be managed by the neighbourhood house under a formal agreement with Council.

Thank you

Before making this decision, we asked the local community to help us decide how this land could be better utilised in the future.

Thank you for the fabulous ideas submitted at Your Say Yarra and at our on-site community workshop in March.

There was overwhelming support for a community garden and some support for continuation of bocce and similar activities.
