After a year of planning and discussion Melbourne Water are commencing the M41 Merri Creek to MCG water main renewal project. Works have begun in Edinburgh Gardens on Monday 14 May and are expected to continue throughout areas within Yarra until late 2019.

The M41 water main is a large pipeline that supplies drinking water to over 350,000 residents and local businesses in the inner Melbourne suburbs. The water main is almost 100 years old and is at high risk of failure.

The renewals are necessary to efficiently supply our community with water. It is not expected that water supply to households will be interrupted.

Renewal works will run from Merri Creek in Northcote to Wellington Parade in East Melbourne.

What can you expect?

There will be noise caused by trucks and machinery, temporary lane, road and path closures along with reductions in speed limits near work areas. There are currently bike and pedestrian path closures and detours in and around Edinburgh Gardens.
