Laws about drinking in Yarra’s parks this long weekend

Wednesday 17 January 2018

Laws about alcohol and amplified music apply in our parks and public spaces this long weekend.

Yarra’s local laws are:

  • No alcohol consumption between 9pm and 9am in all public spaces.
  • No amplified music in public spaces.

We also urge people to leave glass at home.

These laws apply most of the year and ensure our parks and public spaces are fun, safe and clean places for people spend time.

It’s forecast to be a hot weekend, so we encourage park goers to take special care in the heat, including drinking plenty of water and staying in the shade. Visit the Better Health Channel for more tips on how to cope in the heat.

We expect the January public holiday to be a busy time in Yarra’s parks, especially Edinburgh Gardens in North Fitzroy.

We are preparing for extra visitors over this weekend by providing extra:

  • Toilets
  • Bins
  • Lights
  • Clean up crews, and
  • First aid.

Our local laws officers and additional security will be at the park to remind people of our local laws and report any anti-social behaviour.
