Register for updates on M41 water main renewal project

Wednesday 12 April 2017

Council is encouraging residents to register on the Melbourne Water website to receive updates on the M41 Water Main Renewal Project.

The project is being undertaken by Melbourne Water and will involve renewing the M41 water main, which is almost 100 years old and at risk of failure. The water main supplies drinking water to Melbourne’s inner suburbs.

The water main runs through parts of Yarra, from Merri Creek, Northcote to Edinburgh Gardens, under Queens and Alexandra parades through to George Street, Fitzroy. The route follows George Street to Victoria Parade, and then runs through the Fitzroy Gardens to Wellington Parade.

Melbourne Water has established a website -  www.yoursay.melbournewater.com.au/m41 - that provides more information and regular updates about the project. Residents can also register to receive email updates from Melbourne Water.

The project will involve construction works that are likely to disrupt residents and businesses located along the main water route, so we encourage people to visit the website and register to stay up to date throughout the project.

It is expected that construction on the water main will begin in mid to late 2017 and will take approximately 12 to 18 months to construct.

Melbourne Water has been undertaking investigation works along the water main route since December 2016.
