IDAHOBIT 2024 in Yarra: Queer History Walking Tour and Breakfast

Friday 17 May 2024

Join our queer history walking tour, community flag raising event and free breakfast for this year's IDAHOBIT (International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Intersex Discrimination).

Every year on 17 May, millions of people around the world get together to tackle LGBTIQA+ discrimination for IDAHOBIT (International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Intersex Discrimination).

In Yarra, we'll be marking this important day with:

  • A Queerways walking tour to acknowledge Yarra’s LGBTIQA+ historical places of significance.
    8am to 9.15am
Meet at the Queerways Mural - Little Smith Street, Fitzroy.

The tour will be led by community elder, Tex McKenzie. Tex is an engaging storyteller who will share firsthand accounts and anecdotes of what life was like at those times and in those spaces. Dedicating his life to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, Tex has lived through the arrival and departure of many of Yarra’s iconic LGBTIQA+ spaces.

  • Mayoral Pride Flag Raising and breakfast
    9.15am to 10am
Collingwood Town Hall - 140 Hoddle Street, Abbotsford.

The walking tour will finish at Collingwood Town Hall followed by the Mayoral Pride Flag Raising, breakfast, coffee and a drag performance.

You are welcome to attend one or both of the events.

This event is open to everyone. We invite all of our LGBTQIA+ community and allies to attend.
