Switzerland is a country of many polarities. From its idyllic cow-grazing pastures to its much-envied civic participatory processes and policy of neutrality – the distinct Swiss-made trademark is grounded in aesthetics of cleanness, readability, and 'objectivity.'

Dancehouse's Swiss focus presents innovators of gestural artistry, modulating the spectacular in order to enunciate a different stylistic relationship to movement – staging a return to the almost elementary, the minimal, the supremely simple. At once stripped back and intimate but always utterly and meticulously elaborate.

From the black box to the white cube, from public parks to rock concerts and cinema scapes, this selection brings to Melbourne some of the most sophisticated, thought-provoking Geneva-based makers. These breathtaking works all interrogate complex notions of identity, shared heritage, tradition and the desire to demarcate, possess, tame or exploit the environment and the self.
