Sarah Hopkins: The Subjects

Tuesday 02 July 2019

Sarah Hopkins is a Sydney-based novelist and criminal lawyer. Hopkins has spent years appearing for young people in the children’s court. Her unnerving conclusions about the real-life levers into the criminal justice system helped inform the fiction depictions in The Subjects of the over-medicalisation of ‘bad behaviour’ and the over-criminalisation of children and young adults.
