Keele Street Children's Centre
177 Keele Street
Collingwood 3066

Keele Street Children’s Centre welcomes children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. Located in Collingwood, our early childhood education and care service offers an award-winning Bush Kinder program.

Our small, unique building – with room for up to 37 children – feels more like a family home than a childcare centre. We have flexible classrooms that open up into a large outdoor yard, promoting opportunities for children to play both indoors and outdoors.

The benefits to the child in attending such a small, community-focused service is that they are able to form secure attachments to trusted adults quickly, providing an excellent foundation for learning throughout life.

Get to know Bush Kinder

Our Bush Kinder program is an opportunity for children to learn about Country and the bush environment of the Yarra Bend. It connects children with nature and wildlife, increasing their wellbeing and sense of belonging.

Developed in consultation with the Wurundjeri Land Council, the program won a 2022 Victorian Early Years Award for excellence in educational leadership.

What to expect

The families who attend Keele Street tend to create lasting connections with their child’s educators and are actively involved in their child’s early learning. Our educators get to know each family individually and understand each child’s unique context.

  • a small, unique, community-focused service
  • award-winning, first-aid trained early childhood educators
  • flexible indoor-outdoor experiences for learning and playing
  • delicious and healthy meals prepared by our qualified onsite cook
  • a communication platform for you to share and receive updates about your child – access this from mobile device via the Xplor app.
  • respect for the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples by valuing traditional knowledge and cultures of this land.

Early childhood experts agree that play is the best way for young children to learn. Children can become immersed in their experiences to develop an understanding of their world.

We give children opportunities to:

  • paint, draw, cut, paste and create
  • climb, run, jump, crawl and dance
  • read, write, count and discuss
  • pretend, dress up and imagine
  • meditate, relax and stretch
  • practice social interactions and form relationships
  • explore, investigate and hypothesise
  • dig, cook, mould and meld.

Please put these items in your child’s bag:

  • a change of clothes
  • a drink bottle
  • a sun hat.

On cool or wet days, please provide gumboots and a warm, waterproof jacket.

Younger children should bring:

  • a comfort toy
  • a dummy (if needed)
  • formula in a measured dispenser (if needed) and bottles.

Please clearly label all belongings with your child’s name.
