To get Child Care Subsidy you must:
- care for a child 13 or younger who's not attending secondary school, unless an exemption applies
- use an approved child care service
- be responsible for paying the child care fees
- meet residency and immunisation requirements
- have a myGov account
Read the full conditions under who can get it on the Services Australia website.
You can claim this subsidy using your Centrelink online account through myGov.
Follow the step-by-step guide from Services Australia to get started and claim the subsidy.
You will also need to sign an agreement on paper with the service your child will be attending.
The amount of Child Care Subsidy you receive depends on your circumstances, is determined by current legislation and includes details such as:
- your family's income
- the hourly rate cap based on the type of approved childcare you use
- your child's age
- the hours of activity you and your partner (if you have one) do
- the number of children in your care
You can use the CCS calculator for an estimate of your eligible amount.
Please note: Getting the child care subsidy may change the level of benefit you currently receive.
It can take four - six weeks for your Child Care Subsidy to be approved. Your children's service will charge full fees until then.
If you're eligible for Child Care Subsidy you may get extra help with the cost of approved child care. To get the additional child care subsidy, you need to be one of the following:
- an eligible grandparent getting an income support payment
- transitioning from certain income support payments to work
- experiencing temporary financial hardship
- caring for a child who is vulnerable or at risk of harm, abuse or neglect
