Car sharing is a cost effective alternative to owning a car.

Research shows that one car share vehicle can replace between seven-10 privately owned vehicles.

This can help reduce congestion, demand for on street parking and driving and car dependence. It also promotes sharing of resources and makes non car-owning lifestyles more viable in the City of Yarra.

How car sharing works

You need to join a car sharing organisation, then you can rent cars on demand - either by the hour or by the day.

What you need to know:

  • members pay each time they use a shared car
  • cars are parked in special reserved parking spots (called 'pods')
  • cars can be booked by phone or on the internet
  • cars can be booked for trips as short as one hour
  • petrol, insurance, registration, maintenance and cleaning are included in the hire charge

School crossings

We manage school crossing supervisors who assist pedestrians of all ages, but mainly school age children, to cross the road safely.

The operational school crossings in the City of Yarra are staffed by permanent part-time and relief school crossing supervisors. They are located at both pedestrian light crossings and at flagged children's crossings.

School crossing supervisors work for one hour in the morning, generally between 8.00am to 9.00am, and one hour in the afternoons, generally between 3.00pm and 4.00pm.
