We actively foster an inclusive workplace that celebrates the contribution made by everyone.

This includes people with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, culturally, religiously and linguistically diverse people, young people, older people and people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer.

Our team participates in a variety of Diversity and Inclusion Staff groups, including the Gender Equity Committee, Reconciliation Action Plan Committee, the LGBTIQ Working Group and the Disability Advisory Committee.

We are committed to improving the lives of women, girls and people of diverse genders. The Yarra Council's Gender Equality Action plan has three focus areas:

  1. apply gender equity and inclusion principles to recruitment, career development and remuneration processes
  2. ensure a safe, inclusive and respectful workplace
  3. build organisational capability to embed gender equity and inclusion principles

Reporting on our progress within the Yarra City Council happens every six months, and every two years a public progress report is submitted to the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector.
