E-bikes and e-scooters
Electric bikes and scooters are a sustainable way to get around Yarra. All road rules must be followed to ensure the safety of other riders and pedestrians.
E-bikes
Electric bikes (e-bikes) are an increasingly popular mode of transport globally. E-bikes can make it easier for people to travel longer distances, carry heavier loads and can support people later in life to continue to cycle.
Like all bike riders, e-bike riders must:
- comply with Victorian road rules
- wear helmets at all times
- respect other road users.
We encourage all people on bikes, including e-bikes, to use the extensive network of on-road and off-road bike routes throughout the municipality. Check out the Yarra Travelsmart map [ PDF, 11.13 MB] .
E-scooters
Electric scooters (e-scooter) are an accessible, eco-friendly and cost-effective way to travel and private e-scooter use is now legal across Victoria.
Rules and regulations when using e-scooters
- Read e-scooter road rules on the Transport Victoria website.
- Rules and regulations for e-sccoters are published in the Road Safety Road Rules 2017.
- Guidelines on legal e-scooter use are available from the Victoria Police.
