There are many public transport options in the City of Yarra including trains, trams and buses
Public Transport is a convenient and popular way to get around Yarra. There are 6 trainlines that pass through the City of Yarra; the Mernda & Hurstbridge lines to the north and the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein & Glen Waverley lines to the south.
For local trips there are 8 tram and 16 bus routes passing through, and connecting to, Yarra.
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) manage all public transport in Victoria. Use the following links for more information on:
PTV also has apps for Android and iPhone users. These Apps can be used to check network service information, journey planning and ticketing.
PTV is responsible for all new bus and tram stops on the network.
Upgrading tram stops is also often a responsibility of PTV and with a number of tram and bus stops in Yarra on state managed roads, there is limited opportunities for the City of Yarra council to implement upgrades to popular stops.
If you would like to request a bus stop upgrade then please contact us.
For information on how report a problem on public transport, please visit PTV’s Feedback and Complaints webpage.
In June 2024, the Department of Transport and Planning completed consultation on upgrading tram stops on the route 86 tramline including on Gertrude and Smith Streets in Fitzroy and Collingwood. The project seeks to make tram travel easier, safer and more accessible.
