The purpose of the Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee is to provide input into Council’s:
- implementation of the Financial Sustainability Strategy and associated actions;
- review and update of the 10 year Financial Plan;
- Waste and Recycling Strategy – specifically consideration of options to fully recover waste costs through waste rates or charges;
- review and update relevant policies, plans and initiatives that impact Council’s Integrated Strategic Planning financial responsibilities.
The Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee is an advisory committee of Council. The Committee has a purely strategic focus.
The Committee should focus on issues and opportunities that are relevant across the entire municipality and should not duplicate the purpose and activities of the Audit and Risk Committee.
The Committee has no delegated decision-making powers of Council.

To enable Committee members to effectively contribute and provide feedback on financial sustainability strategies, they should demonstrate or possess one more of the following attributes, skills or qualifications:
- Current qualification as a chartered accountant or a certified practising accountant;
- Contemporary experience in public sector or local government finances or managing finances of large complex organisations;
- preparing financial statements and reporting on key performance metrics;
- external or internal audit;
- strong community networks and linkages;
- interest in the Council Plan strategic objectives;
- an ability to represent a broad range of views that reflect the diversity of the community and local issues; and/or
- a willingness to contribute positively to meetings in a fair and unbiased manner.
Applicants will be requested to submit a short statement of capabilities addressing the following criteria:
- demonstrated contemporary expertise in public sector or local government finances;
- if relevant, evidence indicating the approval of their organisation to act as its representative (if that is the capacity in which the application is made);
- contemporary experience in preparing financial statements and reporting on key performance metrics;
- experience in internal or external audits;
- a commitment to participating in committee meetings; and current qualifications in finance or accounting.
Membership of the Committee should broadly reflect the demographic profile of Council’s municipality.
