Barkly Gardens is a large park in the heart of bustling Richmond, perfect spot for family picnics, dog walking and exercise. Officially opened in 1867, Barkly Gardens is Richmond’s only 19th century residential garden square.

The shady trees and green lawns make it a great place to relax.

Designated areas available for hire

Barkly gardens is open to all. If you would like to book a designated area for personal training, sports or an event please see the information below.

For personal trainers

Personal Trainers are welcome to use the soccer/cricket ground if not already in use for approved sporting events (including training). Personal trainers may not use the gardens to conduct training sessions.

For other events

Alcohol consumption

Alcohol may be consumed in the park between 9am and 9pm. This does not require a permit.

You must apply for a temporary limited licence if you intend to sell alcohol within the park.

How to book 

If you are a registered user and have booked with us before, you can log into our booking system to book a space.

If you are a new user, you need to register with us before you make a booking.

Organisation bookings

If you are from an organisation, you must:

  • register your organisation
  • make your booking under your organisation's name.

If you're from a not-for-profit group, you may be eligible for discounted use. Contact our bookings team to find out more.
