Join City of Yarra and Merri Creek Management Committee for a family-friendly day of planting for National Tree Day.
National Tree Day has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event. More than just a day, it’s a nationwide movement that inspires Australians to get their hands dirty, connect with nature, and make a positive difference in their local communities.
This year we will be planting at Burnley Park, which serves as an important urban sanctuary for wildlife and plays a vital role in supporting the health of the Birrarung (Yarra River) corridor. The variety of plant species we will be planting will be carefully chosen to increase habitat complexity, provide food and shelter for native fauna, and support pollinators such as native bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.
The specific planting area in Burnley Park has remnant plants aligned with (EVC) Plains Grassy Woodland, which was once widespread across south-eastern Australia but now is nationally recognised as an Endangered Ecological Vegetation Class with less than one per cent of this ecosystem remaining today.
Bring your family and friends for this kid-friendly, accessible event. We look forward to seeing you!
