This year we’re partnering with the Merri Creek Management Committee to plant 4000 locally sourced plants at Alphington Park.

National Tree Day is our biggest annual community planting event. Each year, volunteers come together to help restore and replant areas across our parklands. In 2025, we’ll be working along a key pathway in Alphington Park, creating a vital wildlife corridor in one of Melbourne’s rare inner-city natural areas.

Despite its urban setting, the City of Yarra is home to diverse plant and animal life, including important wetlands and bushlands. This year’s planting will help expand the endangered Plains Grassy Woodland vegetation and connect to existing bushland, supporting the habitat for local fauna. 

Community events like this support the goals of Yarra’s Nature Strategy, helping to increase the diversity, connectivity and resilience of our local environment while encouraging the community to get involved and care for it.
