Discover the magic of art and nature at Quarries Park with two exciting art workshops for kids ages 6-12, led by Cassie Leatham and Spacecraft Studios.
Book in for one, or both sessions for an inspiring afternoon of creativity, storytelling, and connection to Country.
Please note: Dress for mess! We will be using natural materials and non-toxic paint, but we can't guarantee it won't stain clothes or irritate sensitive skin.
Workshop 1 - Pigment Making & Painting
12:30 – 2pm
Gather around the fire for a welcome and introduction before setting off on a guided walk around Quarries Park hunting for natural pigments, rocks, charcoal and bush-dying materials.
Back at the workshop base, children will grind and mix their finds to create watercolours and printing inks. Cassie will then lead a painting and mark-making session using these handmade pigments. This hands-on workshop connects creativity with nature, exploring traditional techniques and storytelling through art.
Workshop 2 - Weaving and Screen Printing
2:30 – 4pm
Participants will start by joining Cassie on a hunt for native grasses and foliage to use on pre-exposed Spacecraft screens. After foraging, Cassie will lead a weaving session, while Spacecraft guides a screen-printing group. Using the pigments created, Spacecraft will introduce screen printing with locally collected plant and botanical foliage, allowing attendees to print their designs onto calico bags to take home
Workshop details
Each workshop will start at the 2nd Clifton Hill Scouts Hall with a welcome and introduction, followed by a guided walk through the park to gather natural materials. The workshops will explore pigment making, weaving, and screen printing—exploring art, culture, and connection to place.
The artworks created in these workshops will help shape the new Quarries Park Playground. They will provide design resources for the Landscape Architects and give children a meaningful way to see their creativity reflected in their community.
