Successful events are well organised and comfortable for everyone involved.

We encourage you to make your events accessible and inclusive, including for people who:

  • have a disability or limited mobility
  • make deliveries to the event
  • use prams and wheelchairs.

All participants benefit when access is better, including young children and older people.

There are many ways to improve the accessibility of your event. These include:

  • ensuring paths and entrances are accessible (wide enough, free of steps and clutter)
  • providing accessible toilets or having information on the location of nearby accessible toilets
  • arranging sufficient staff or volunteers to provide assistance where required
  • installing temporary ramps where necessary
  • improving access for hearing-impaired people by providing Auslan interpreters and hearing loops (Council venues can provide hearing loops)
  • ensuring signs are well-positioned, clear and concise, with print is in a large clear font, (e.g. Arial)
  • stating the level of accessibility at your event on all promotional material (it's best to make it clear if you can only provide limited access).
