The Victoria Street Lunar Festival returns in 2025 by welcoming the Year of the Snake and marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnamese migration to Australia.
Immerse yourself in the festive spirit of Richmond’s Vietnamese heart. Celebrate the Lunar New Year with traditional music, delicious street food from local eateries, firecrackers and more during this exciting cultural celebration.
This Lunar New Year commences a year of recognition for Yarra, commemorating the first generation of Vietnamese refugees who began arriving in Australia in the mid-1970s as a result of the Vietnam War.
Vietnamese migration was a significant step in enhancing the development of Australia’s growing multicultural community; as the Vietnamese community has made an enormous contribution to Australia, culturally and economically over the past five decades.
The Victoria Street Lunar Festival is the perfect location to commence this year of celebration, as Victoria Street has become one of the primary centres for Vietnamese culture, business and community in Victoria.
In 2025 Council is celebrating the significant contribution of this group to Yarra through a range of installations, projects and events. We will provide more updates on these throughout the year.
Victoria Street Lunar Festival will take place on Sunday 2 February 2025 from 12pm to 10pm. You will find the festivities on Victoria Street (between Church Street and Hoddle Street), from Richmond to Abbotsford.
