For babies, toddlers and preschool children, as well as their carers. Playgroups are a place to play, talk, share ideas and connect with community.

Choose your playgroup

Playgroups meet weekly at various locations across Yarra, including in parks, libraries and community centres. A typical playgroup session is two hours long.

Do you want to start a playgroup? We can help you find a venue and promote your group. We can also share activity and excursion ideas.

Baby playgroups are held in Maternal and Child Health Centres following First Time Parent Groups and are open to all families with young babies.
 

Parent-led community playgroups are usually held in community venues and are open to all families with babies and children.

Supported playgroups are usually held in Neighbourhood Houses and community hubs. They’re run by a facilitator.

We have playgroups for families who speak Japanese, French, Spanish and Vietnamese.

There are playgroups for:

  • families with twins, triplets or more
  • fathers
  • rainbow families

Playgroups can help children to:

  • develop a strong sense of identity
  • connect with and contribute to their world
  • develop a strong sense of wellbeing
  • become confident and involved learners
  • be effective communicators

Playgroups give parents, grandparents and carers an opportunity to:

  • make new friends
  • talk about the joys and challenges of parenting
  • share information, resources and support
  • be part of the local community
  • play with your child
