Yarra City Council is proudly working with the Victorian Government to deliver digital infrastructure upgrades across the Cremorne precinct.

The $1 million project will invest in digital infrastructure across Cremorne including the installation of new smart poles and free public Wi-Fi.

Smart poles will strengthen connectivity and support innovation across the precinct as well as activate technologies at the street level with lighting and sensors to help Council monitor air quality, temperature and foot and street traffic. They will also enable better data collection to inform future planning and response to emerging trends.

The funding will also be used to conduct a Digital Infrastructure Scoping Study, designed to explore future digital, connectivity and investments for the precinct.

Yarra Mayor, Cr Sophie Wade, welcomed the project which will solidify Cremorne as Australia’s leading digital precinct.

“This is an exciting project for the future of Cremorne that will help drive innovation and foster idea sharing.

“It will also allow Council to take a “smart city” approach and respond to emerging trends and changes within the precinct as Cremorne continues to grow and evolve.”

“We are proud to be the delivery partner on this project and look forward to the ensuing improvements to digital equity, creating a smart city that is inclusive and accessible for everyone.”
