We are now sourcing 100% of our electricity needs from a new wind farm in regional Victoria. Since Tuesday 1 January our town halls, gyms, libraries, childcare centres and street lights have been powered by renewable energy.

We have committed to urgent action to respond to the global climate emergency.

With significant energy efficiency works already implemented and solar installations on our buildings reaching capacity, the next step to reduce our emissions was for us to explore purchasing renewable energy for the remainder of our electricity needs.

In an Australian first, the Melbourne Renewable Energy Project has brought together fourteen members of Melbourne’s leading universities, cultural institutions, corporations and councils combined their purchasing power to support the construction of the 80 MW windfarm at Crowlands, near Ararat.

So next time you visit us at one of our town halls, use computers at our libraries or enjoy a run on our treadmills or even as you ride under our streetlights at night you will see our renewable energy in action!
