Join us for a history-filled tour of the gardens, with a free BBQ and storytelling.
Originally established by Thorne Harbour Health volunteers over 30 years ago, the AIDS Memorial Garden remains a treasured sacred space of quiet reflection. The Garden is located on the grounds of the old Fairfield Hospital which was responsible for the care of the majority of HIV/AIDS patients in Victoria.
Delve into the history of HIV/AIDS in Victoria with stories from living legends Bev Greet, David Menadue and Jenny Hoy; who fought for the hospital to remain open. Positive Women Victoria was founded in the Matrons cottage there, and with the 2025 theme for World AIDS Day 'No one left behind' we'll acknowledge women from that time.
5.30pm Free BBQ by Thorne Harbour Health Volunteers
6pm Speakers begin, followed by walking tour
This event is in collaboration with City of Yarra, Yarra Libraries, Thorne Harbour Health and Melbourne Polytechnic (which is now on the old hospital/garden site).
