Artist Steve Brown embraces abstraction for the creative freedom it provides. His view is that art is inherently subjective, and that the artist’s intention holds no greater authority than the viewer’s response.
His work is shaped by Zen practice and psychoanalytic ideas that value spontaneity, presence, and a gentle letting go of control. To support this way of working, Steve uses processes that reduce control and planning and engage the use of chance and randomisation.
Committed to accessibility, Steve uses simple, inexpensive, and often ephemeral materials, hoping his work might encourage others to create. For Steve, the greatest value of art lies in the act of making it and sharing it.
