E-bikes

Electric bikes are a great way to encourage more people in Yarra to use our extensive network of on-road and off-road bike routes.

Electric bikes (e-bikes) are an increasingly popular mode of transport globally. E-bikes can make it easier for people to travel longer distances, carry heavier loads and can support people later in life to continue to cycle.

Like all bike riders. E-bike riders must:

  • comply with Victorian road rules

  • wear helmets at all times

  • respect other road users

We encourage all people on bikes, including e-bikes, to use the extensive network of on-road and off-road bike routes throughout the municipality. Check out the Yarra Travelsmart map [ PDF, 11.13 MB] .

E-bike share scheme

To support more people to try e-bikes in Yarra, we joined the City of Melbourne and City of Port Phillip to trial a dock-less e-bike share scheme in 2020 with industry partner - Lime.

Lime continues to operated the e-bike share scheme across the City of Yarra, City of Melbourne, City of Port Phillip and City of Stonnington.

If you have any issues, email Lime at [email protected] or phone 1800 861 305.

Ongoing e-bike issues

We are also actively addressing e-bike concerns across Yarra.

However, if you encounter persistent issues like unremoved reported e-bikes or inappropriate parking, you can escalate your concerns to Council directly.

Our Officers will investigate these matters further.

This is the best way to resolve an inappropriately parked vehicle, such as an obstruction or safety matter. All other avenues will incur delays in reporting to appropriate provider and Council. Third-party apps such as Snap, Send Solve are not supported and reports submitted will be delayed as it is not integrated with the operators' system.
