How to apply for a permit to operate a food truck in Yarra.
To run a food truck in Yarra, you must comply with our mobile food vehicle guidelines [ PDF, 226.73 KB] before you start trading:
- Your mobile food truck cannot operate within 100 linear metres of an open food business. The exception is if the truck's operating hours are outside those of nearby food businesses.
- You must clear any litter from around the mobile food truck site.
- Preparing, handling and serving of food and drinks must comply with the Food Act 1984 and our public health unit requirements.
- The food truck site cannot be near residential areas, as zoned in the Yarra Planning Scheme.
- You must submit a mobile food truck application before operating your business.
How to apply
To apply, complete an application for mobile food vendor permit [ PDF, 76.42 KB] . One of our officers will inspect the site and make sure that you have met the guidelines.
The application assessment could take up to 6 weeks.
If we approve your nominated site, we may need to install signage before you start, showing that a mobile food truck is trading at the site.

Temporary permit
If you want to operate a mobile food truck in one of our parks, roads or reserves during an event or festival, you need to apply for a temporary public space permit by completing our:
