Yarra Launches Enforcement Blitz on Misuse of E-Scooters

The City of Yarra has launched an enforcement blitz on e-scooters and e-bikes, as part of actively addressing the community’s concerns.

The enforcement blitz, which looks for, reports and removes e-scooters and e-bikes inappropriately parked across footpaths, is one part of the City’s work to ensure our streets are accessible for all.

Other measures include:

  • Geo-fencing – virtual boundaries which control the movement of e-scooters and the areas they can and can’t be used.
  • Virtual designated parking stations seen on the user app controlled by GPS. Along street and road where this is activated, users are required to end their trip in these bays.
  • Marked designated parking stations, these areas are visible to everyone and are in place at key locations and high use sites to ensure e-scooter users have a safe location to end their trip. These designated parking stations have physically demarcated by parking symbols.

“E-scooters are an accessible, eco-friendly and cost-effective way to travel and have had a strong take up over the last three years,” says City of Yarra Mayor, Stephen Jolly.

“However, we’ve heard from our community that incorrectly parked e-scooters and inappropriate user behaviour is impacting the safety and accessibility of our streets.”

He added that the City of Yarra is committed to working with e-scooter operators and the local community to address these issues.

In addition to the City of Yarra’s enforcement blitz, members of the community that encounter persistent issues such a reported e-scooter that remains unmoved or inappropriate parking, you can report these directly to the providers.

They will be able promptly to remove or relocate e-scooter or e-bikes. Under Council’s agreement with the providers, all dangerous obstructions or accessibility issues, should be resolved within two hours.

You can find the details to make a report on our website.

Reports can also be raised directly by scanning the QR code provided on each e-scooter, this will open an online form and by completing the relevant information, a report is submitted.
