Introducing new geofencing measures and expanding virtual parking bays based on community feedback.
E-scooters strengthen our active transport network and support the goals of our Transport Strategy 2022-32 to ensure that people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can move effectively around our municipality.
These forms of shared micro-mobility also bring some challenges, particularly around good civic behaviour.
At the 17 December 2024 Council Meeting, Council resolved to geofence all footpaths narrower than two metres as no parking zones across the municipality by the end of January. This means that users will not be able to end their trip at these locations.
Council is in the process of installing more marked designated parking bays at key locations, in addition to virtual parking bays to improve parking and strengthen safety.
Council is responding to community feedback on the shared e-scooter program and is working to enhance safety and accessibility of our streets.
We’re committed to ongoing improvement, ensuring compliance and continue to encourage positive shared e-scooter behaviour in Yarra. Council will work closely with our operators to raise awareness via education campaigns and other interventions.
