Yarra City Council to host local government election info session for prospectiv

Yarra City Council is hosting an information session and participating in another session next week for people interested in running for Council at the local government elections, which are taking place in October 2024.

The first information session for prospective Yarra candidates will offer a chance to learn more about the election process and what to expect as a Councillor, covering:

  • Yarra’s municipality and new ward structure
  • The role and responsibilities of Council, the Mayor and Councillors
  • Participation in Council meetings and other time commitments
  • Information on how to enrol and key election dates

Please note that this is an information session only and does not satisfy the requirements of the mandatory candidate training required under the Local Government Act 2020. Visit Local Government Victoria for more information.

Date: Tuesday 30 July 
Time: 6pm to 7.30pm 
Location: Richmond Town Hall, 333 Bridge Road, Richmond 

Yarra City Council is also partnering with other Melbourne councils and the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) to deliver another information session for the community and prospective candidates, which will be held online as well as in person. This session will cover:

  • Local government and the important role councils play for our local communities
  • The role and responsibility of a Councillor, Mayor, Deputy Mayor and CEO
  • The election process and candidate requirements
  • What newly elected councillors can expect soon after the elections
  • Councillor training and development opportunities
