All about the Yana Ngargna Advisory Group, meeting minutes and role for Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Yarra City.
The Yana Ngargna Advisory Committee has been established as a partnership between Yarra City Council and the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the broader First Peoples community.
The Committee has been established to:
- provide a structure for ongoing consultation between the First Peoples community and Council across a broad range of issues impacting First Peoples in Yarra;
- provide Council with strategic advice regarding issues pertaining to social justice for First Peoples; and
- assist Council to identify its ongoing role in regard to First Peoples in Yarra.
The Committee is an advisory committee of Council. The Committee has a strategic focus.
The Committee will focus on issues and opportunities that are relevant across the entire municipality.
The Committee has no delegated decision-making power from Council.
- 2 Councillors (appointed annualy)
- 7 First Peoples community members
- 1 designated Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Elder position
Appointed Councillors (2024/25)
The following Councillors have been appointed to the Yana Ngargna Advisory Group for 2025:
Membership of the Advisory Group is to be open to all Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, First Peoples community members and organisations.
These community members will be selected through an Expression of Interest process. They will hold formal positions for a minimum of a two-year period.
As far as practicable, the composition of community members will reflect the diversity of the community in accordance with the Council Committees Policy [ PDF, 246.73 KB] .
