About the Multicultural Advisory Group, its members and role to promote and advocate for diverse communities in Yarra. Find past meeting minutes.

The Multicultural Advisory Committee has been established to:

  • Provide feedback on the implementation of the 2024 Multicultural Partnerships Policy
  • Provide feedback and advice to Council on its policies, plans and services that impact multicultural communities.
  • Consider and provide advice on key external initiatives, programs and reviews.
  • Share information and resources between community groups and their representatives.
  • Assist Council to promote the benefits of cultural diversity within the Yarra municipality and beyond.
  • Provide advice to Council with its communication, engagement and consultation with multicultural communities.

The Committee provides a structure for ongoing communication and consultation between multicultural communities and Council across a broad range of issues impacting on those communities.

The Committee is an advisory committee of Council. The Committee has a purely strategic focus.

The Committee should focus on issues and opportunities that are relevant across the entire municipality.

The Committee has no delegated decision-making power from Council.

The Committee welcomes applications for membership from:

  • Any member of Yarra’s culturally religiously and linguistically diverse community;
  • Residents;
  • Members who possess relevant qualifications, skillsets and lived experience about Yarra’s multicultural communities.
  • Community organisations, agencies and service providers who have a focus on provision of services to multicultural communities in Yarra;
  • Community groups in Yarra.
  • Community representatives can be people who live, work, study or have another connection to Yarra.

As far as practicable, the composition of community members will reflect the diversity of the community in accordance with the Council Committees Policy [ PDF, 246.73 KB] .
