The Audit and Risk Committee checks how Yarra City Council spends its money and keeps us accountable. The committee acts as an independent and objective watchdog and risk manager. It works with Yarra City Council's staff and the Chief Executive Officer to prevent fraud and improve our compliance.

The Audit and Risk Committee is required to:
- monitor if Yarra City Council's policies and procedures are in line with principles for good corporate governance
- monitor if Yarra City Council's policies and procedures comply with the Local Government Act 2020, its regulations and Ministerial directions
- monitor our financial and performance reporting
- monitor how we manage risks and prevent fraud
- advise us on ways to improve our risk management, fraud prevention and controls
- oversee our internal and external audits

Committee members
The Audit and Risk Committee also includes three independent members who are chosen for their experience in financial, risk and public sector management.
These independent members are:
- David Ashmore
- Kylie Maher
- Lisa Tripodi
The Committee is assisted by two audit firms:
- HLB Mann Judd (appointed by Yarra City Council as the internal auditor)
- RSD Audit (appointed by the Victorian Auditor-General as the external auditor)
