Customer Service Officer with a creative side.
You may have met Pat at the front desk on your way into one of our centres. A true Yarra Leisure mainstay, Pat has been working as a Customer and Member Service Officer for almost eight years. He is a familiar face in our centres with a calm presence and a quick, dry sense of humour.
Known among colleagues and customers for his thoughtfulness and impeccable comic timing, Pat brings years of experience to his role and a genuine care for people. Whether he’s greeting a regular or helping someone new feel at home, Pat’s quiet empathy and steady presence make him an essential part of the team.
Outside Yarra Leisure, Pat is also a filmmaker, director, writer and musician.
“I make films, but Yarra Leisure is my real passion. Filmmaking is for money,” he says wryly.
That blend of humility and humour is classic Pat. His deadpan delivery and warm understanding of people shine through both in his creative work and with every customer interaction. He brings the same storytelling instinct and emotional intelligence to the front desk as he does to the stage or screen.
“I also play music for fun,” he says. “I used to be in a new wave band, but we just do it for fun now because you can’t do it all - you’ve just got to choose some things.”
Pat is currently directing a show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
“My friend Isabelle is putting on a show. It’s an hour of surreal sketch, stand-up and poetry,” he explains. “That’s kind of what I do. I make films, and I direct things.”
Recently, Pat completed a short film titled DX350, a thoughtful exploration of technology and loneliness, where a fictional pair of headphones, the DX350s, become a strange channel for human connection.
In 2022, his film Lime Parfait was featured at the Melbourne International Film Festival. This film follows a young woman named Dani as she navigates intergenerational relationships and memory and is a touching, introspective story reflecting Pat’s gift for capturing the subtleties of human experience.
Pat’s artistic side enhances his work at Yarra Leisure. His ability to find humour in the everyday and connect with people from all walks of life is felt by everyone he meets. With Pat, creativity and community service go hand in hand.
