Changes to services during the Collingwood electrification works

Information for pool users during the Collingwood electrification works closure.

02 Sep 2026

From Monday 14 September until January 2027, Collingwood Leisure Centre will undergo electrification works.

To prepare for the temporary operating conditions, there will be a whole-centre closure on Monday 14 September.

The gym and group exercise studios will reopen after this date with access available from the smaller entry on Turnbull Street. There will also be another whole-centre closure for 2 weeks in November with exact dates to be confirmed.

How will this impact our programs and lap lanes?

While the works take place, Learn to Swim programs and Aqua classes will be relocated to Fitzroy Swimming Pool and Richmond Recreation Centre with impacts to our usual lap lane availability.

Balancing the needs of lap swimmers, Learn to Swim programs, and general aquatic users during the Collingwood closure will be a challenge and we have worked hard to meet the needs of all pool users.

We recognise how important the aqua play and water exercise lanes are for rehabilitation, mobility and disability support and it is important our facilities remain inclusive and accessible to all.

We are actively looking at how to preserve dedicated space for all users as best we can. Please check our Lane Availability page before visiting.

What will happen to Aqua classes?

While Collingwood is closed, we will offer some outdoor Aqua classes at Fitzroy Swimming Pool and indoor classes are available at Richmond Recreation Centre.

Aqua at Fitzroy

Monday to Friday - 9.15am

Saturday - 8.45am and 4.30pm

Sunday - 4:30pm

Deep Water Running

Monday DWR at Collingwood will be paused during the electrification works.

Thursday 6.15am DWR will be running as usual at Richmond Recreation Centre.

Aqua play lane access during Aqua class times

While Aqua classes are running the deep end of the pool will be available for general aqua play access. Please be aware that the aqua play lane will be a shared space for the duration of the class.

Aqua participants should be aware that patrons will be moving about on pool deck and in the bleachers while Aqua classes are running.

Aqua lane allocations and capacities

Due to limited lap lane availability on Monday and Thursday evenings

  • 1-20 participants 2 lanes

  • 21-30 participants 3 lanes

  • Monday and Thursday 6.45pm evening Aqua classes will be capped at 20 participants and 2 lanes only

What if there is a heatwave?

When there is a high temperature or heatwave forecast, an outdoor Aqua hot weather action plan will be implemented.

Aqua participants are advised to consider wearing UV protection – including sunscreen, a long sleeved rashie and hat.

Please note, for the health and safety of participants and our instructors, Aqua classes will be cancelled when the temperature reaches 31°C or higher.

This decision is at the discretion of the Duty Manager on shift and will be communicated as soon as possible to patrons.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to make our aquatics areas available to all users during the Collingwood closure.
