In times of boredom, will we consume, or will we create?

Flop Time by interdisciplinary artist Isabella Kottek investigates the tension between consumption and creation, exploring how online and offline experiences shape attention and creativity.

Through paintings that depict familiar online moments with humour and layered metaphors, Kottek highlights the deep entanglement of life with the internet. Instead of attempting to resolve this tension, the artist creates space for reflection, suggesting that where mindless scrolling dominates, curiosity can still lead to unexpected discoveries.

Artist bio:

Isabella Kottek is an interdisciplinary artist whose practices includes, but is not limited to, painting, drawing, collage, ceramics, textiles and zines. Her works often investigate how stories from history, personal experiences and digital culture can be reshaped and retold.

She has exhibited regularly in group shows since 2010 and held two solo exhibitions. Kottek graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) from Monash University in 2013, where her final body of work experimented with semi-abstraction that transformed ordinary activities into something strange and almost familiar.

Kottek has completed residencies at Police Point, Portsea and Yarra Youth Services, Fitzroy.
