Bin collection

From the week of 1 July 2024, new lime green-lidded food and garden organics (FOGO) bins will be collected weekly. Your FOGO bin will be collected on the same day that Council collects your rubbish bin (unless you live in the Abbotsford alternate collection area). Learn more.

How often are bins collected?

  • Your rubbish bin (red-lid) is collected every week.
  • Your recycling bin (yellow-lid) is collected fortnightly - it alternates with your purple-lid glass bin.

Bin collection on public holidays

Bin collections are affected on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. If your collection falls on one of these days, then your bins will be collected the following day.

If you’re not sure, please check the bin collection calendar or FAQs section.

How to report a missed collection

Bins are collected any time between 5am and 4pm on your collection day.

If your bin has not been collected by 4pm, please let us know via report missed bin collection. We’ll collect it within 24-48 business hours of being notified, including on weekends.

Please check the bin collection calendar before reporting a missed collection. Bins will not be collected in a different week to the scheduled service.

What to do if your bin is marked with a contamination sticker

To help you learn how to recycle correctly, we will place a sticker on your recycling or glass bin if you put the wrong items inside.  We will mark on the sticker what the wrong item is, so that you know not to put it in there next time.

When you have removed the wrong item/s, please call us on 9205 5555 or let us know via report missed bin collection and we will arrange for your bin to be emptied.

We want to make sure that our recycling can be processed correctly and used to make new products. The contamination sticker is a useful educational tool to help everyone learn how to recycle correctly.
