Finding stray cats or dogs we recommend checking with local animal shelters. Most lost and stray pets in Yarra are taken to the Lost Dogs' Home.
If you have lost your pet
We recommend the following options.
Check your local animal shelters
Most of our lost and stray cats and dogs go to the Lost Dogs' Home. You should contact them first.
Make a flyer and do a door-knock or letterbox drop
Making a flyer is a great way to help find your lost pet. When making your flyer, be sure to include:
- your pet's name and a description
- the date your pet went missing
- the area your pet went missing from
- unique features such as medical conditions or distinguishing marks
- your contact phone number.
Start with a door-knock or letterbox drop in your local area. Drop your flyers at nearby shops and notify local groups such as Neighbourhood Watch.
Please note: under Victorian EPA laws, signs and posters on council property (such as street poles and park benches) can be classified as litter. You can attach flyers to private property to avoid them being removed from street poles.
Check your local area
Other areas to look for lost pets include garden sheds, garages, buildings, reserves, parks, schoolyards, beaches, rivers and creeks.
