Urban design frameworks (UDF) provide a vision for future development in Yarra. They guide the theme for buildings and public spaces in a precinct.
Brick and mortar or modern high-rise? Urban design frameworks guide the look, feel, access and use of buildings in an area. They reflect our vision for Yarra's built environment.
What is an urban design framework?
Urban design frameworks (UDF) provide a vision for the future development of various precincts in Yarra. They guide planners, architects and decision-makers on our desired design and use of:
- buildings
- public spaces
- footpaths and roads
- parks and landscaped areas
The frameworks also say how we would like the environment, economy, culture and social life in a precinct to evolve.
Who makes urban design frameworks?
Urban design frameworks involve several rounds of community consultation. We listen to people's concerns and ideas before Council adopts a framework.
Once endorsed, urban design frameworks become a strategic planning tool, not a rigid masterplan.
